Do you hold out until bedtime or do you have a nap? I try so hard most of the time to stay up until bed time, so i can just go straight to sleep. But lately I have been having those mini naps. I feel when i have a nap in the day it is so much harder to get to sleep at night. Ive been trying to distract myself when i get that feeling of just needing to sleep. I distract myself by cleaning, going to the shop, sorting things out, going for walks, seeing or speaking to a friend. I dont know if it is just me, but i feel ill when i have a nap and it takes me about half an hour or more, until i feel better. I feel as if i have a bit of a hangover and feel sick. It will be interesting to know if any other people who suffer from fibromyalgia feel worse after a nap.

  1. 85% of the time I have insomnia. So it’s almost imperative for me to fit in naptime. Recently I’ve gotten into this frame of mind of sleeping when I can. One night I passed out at 6pm slept till 8pm and then I was up again till wee morning. So I sleep when I can

  2. I’ve found that short naps help me, but long ones give me that hung-over feeling you’re talking about. I don’t nap every day, but I’ve found that if I don’t nap on those days I’m feeling really exhausted, I get over-tired and then can’t fall asleep at bedtime.

  3. I battle this. I really need a nap most days, but usually because of timing, I don’t have one. I usually hit the point of needing a nap around 1.30pm to 2pm, and because I have to get down to pick up my son from school around 3pm, I very rarely do it. I find I need at least 1.5 hours to have a sleep without getting that hung over feeling, so unless I have that amount of time, or unless I can’t physically stay awake, I don’t have the nap. I don’t have an issue going to sleep at night if I do nap though, in fact I usually get to sleep at night quicker if I have had a nap during the day. Being a single parent AND having Fibro really sucks sometimes !!

    I wonder if the amount of time in a nap makes a difference, e.g., I heard that taking a shorter nap can actually be regenerative. Not sure though that I’ve got the knack of that yet!
